Deployment speed can matter in a way that has nothing to do with comfort. A one-handed opening mechanism, whether that's a thumb stud, flipper, or assisted opening, lets you get to a working blade quickly without needing a second hand free. Look for a locking mechanism you trust, since a knife that folds unexpectedly under pressure is worse than not having one at all.
Many officers also look for added utility, like a built-in seatbelt cutter or glass-breaker tip, which can matter in a roadside emergency. Beyond the blade itself, consider how it carries: a pocket clip position or sheath that works with your duty belt and doesn't interfere with other gear is worth testing before you commit.
